The things that tie people together...

This Visual DNA thing was a little startling. Not by itself, but because of something that happened after I put up my last post.

My best friend (who by the way is someone who has always liked the EXACT same things as me) followed the link, and discovered that he had different answers from mine to almost all the questions. Except the one about what grosses you out most.

I'm not going to go into deep analysis of why this is, and whether this means that our friendship is doomed, but one small thought did strike me -
Hating the same things is probably more important in a relationship than loving the same things - Like a type 1 error versus a type 2 error. What think?

Anybody know some good anger management techniques?

So, I've had some comments on the fact that most of my posts so far are a little "angry" - and I've had people ask me if I'm ok, if there's something wrong going on, do I need someone to talk to, etc.

To all those people - NO, I AM NOT ANGRY! DAMMIT! WHY THE HELL WOULD I BE ANGRY? WHATEVER MADE YOU THINK THAT?
Cant a girl write whatever she wants to without raking up unwanted solicitude? Sometimes I feel like taking these morons and putting them in a blender and...

Oops :-)

On a serious note - thanks to all of you who were concerned enough to ask.
Writing just tends to amplify whatever I'm feeling at the moment - so if I sound monumentally angry, I'm probably only slightly miffed in real life- and If I sound ecstatically happy, well - I hope I'm actually ecstatically happy :-)

More soon!

For crying out loud....

Ever feel like this?

Random data requests sent by jerks
Filling up your time with useless work
Never any time to do what really matters
Leaving your sense of self worth in tatters
Reminders in my inbox -15 invoices pending
This administrative work - is just unending
Over and over - nettling you
Till you want to scream - FAQ you too

:-) This is a little extreme admittedly, but I feel good now that I've vented.

Change

Discontinuity -
My mind screams - I'm bored!
My imagination churns out a horde
of ideas - glimmering, scintillating,
Always beckoning, always tempting

Obstinately -
They attempt to bewitch and to seduce
Looking for a chink in my armor, an excuse
To spirit me away from this grind
To give me a chance to rewind

Reminding me -
Of when my spirit was not so confined
Of when I was not so entwined
With the fates of so many other bodies
I didn't pay court to a million commentaries

And with memory, uncertainty -
Seize the day they say, Carpe diem
I'm offering you a gift, a chance to dream
Your existence is just clay - yours to mould
You can conform, but so much better to leave the fold

An illusion of clarity -
I can see a chance, but do I have the courage?
To throw it all away - step outside of this cage
But no - I realize my ties, see that I am bound,
And that I cannot fly, I must return to ground.

And then epiphany -
In that instant I know - surely this is what it means
To have given up the unbearable lightness of being
To abandon oneself to the inexorable tug of fate
With all its accompanying heaviness and weight

Apologies for some heavy inspiration from Kundera - but that last bit just came so easily, I didn't have the heart to cut it out.

back after a hiatus

..though technically I cant call it a hiatus after just 2 posts...I'm sure there's a minimum amount of time you need to have been doing something before you can take a hiatus from it.
The last 2 months have been very interesting. Stuff happening at work, stuff happening outside of work :-)
I'm wondering where to draw the line between what I write and what I do not - it's somewhat cathartic to just put everything down on paper (e-paper, at any rate)...but that would probably not be wise.
We all need our secrets...it's what makes us interesting.
So, I guess all you need to know is the last 2 months were really really fun - I may choose to write about some of it - keep reading!

anachronistic.

This by rights should have been the first post. But its not. Hence the title.

Hey Hi,
I'm me, you're you,
Lets leave it at that shall we?
It's often nice to preserve
some anonymity

I find confessions
so much easier
If for a priest
I have a perfect stranger

I WILL come back and edit this, you WILL see me make a better first impression - or have I already lost my chance?

Sometimes...

...when you've had a bad day, and all you want to do is go home and curl up in bed and never emerge again...sometimes, life surprises you.
Today was a horrible day at work, and by the time I got home at 9, I was so tired it wasn't funny (It probably wouldn't have been funny even if I was a little less tired, and I've never really understood the meaning of that phrase, but I'm on borrowed time now, and expounding is not on the agenda)

Then 3 nice things happened -
1) I got a call from an old old friend. It was brilliant talking to him. Would have made my day even without the other 2 nice things :)
2) My concert tix for Iron Maiden this weekend got confirmed (I know this deserves a power salute, but I'm too tired just right now)
3) Best of all - I was checking email before starting work again, and I found a Neruda poem in my inbox - my all time fave poet, and a poem I hadn't read before!

It sent shivers down my spine - it's so beautiful. Read on...

I do not love you... by Pablo Neruda

I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that never blooms
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way

that this: where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep.

How does one follow something like that?
I wont even try...
